FAQ

How do I determine cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin content with the ANKOM fiber instruments?

The ANKOM fiber instruments can analyze for either Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF), Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF), or Crude Fiber. NDF consists of hemicellulose, cellulose, and lignin. ADF consists of cellulose and lignin. Acid Detergent Lignin (ADL) consists of lignin only. ADL analysis can be done after ADF analysis, in beakers or in the ANKOM Daisy Incubator instrument. Therefore, hemicellulose content can be determined by subtracting the ADF value from the NDF value. Cellulose content can be determined by subtracting the ADL value from the ADF value.

NOTE: Lignin analysis must be performed with F57 bags only. F58 bags can be used for ADF and NDF analysis.
